My hieroglyphs
as the first blog, the best I can do is to talk about my imagery, the building blocks of my paintings, drawings and prints. I call them hieroglyphs because they remind me to the Egyptian hieroglypghs. The definition of Hieroglypgh according to Britannica: `a character used in a system of pictorial writing` These marks, shapes and forms have been staying with me over the years. Some get transformed with time some just look the same. They are like archaeological finds, basic alphabets that are able to tell any story.
These images of mine do not have a definite definition.
They rather evoke thoughts and emotions. I do not consider them abstract because they are not a result of abstraction. They are symbols, origins, archetypes, primordial images. They are shapes and forms that we have seen somewhere, everywhere. All of us have seen these at every corner of the wide world thus we can relate to them. However when relating to them, even unconsciously we associate our own story to them. I drew these hieroglyphs above with simple black lines to show their essences, however when they make their actual appearance on a painting they do dress to the occasion:
I love collage thinking and I also think that composition is the soul of the image. The very way how the elements of the painting are placed, determines their relationships within the painting. If the placement changes, the story changes. If the added colour changes the story changes again.
Do you have such hieroglyphs?
